BRIX Holdings, LLC is a Dallas-based multi-brand franchising company specializing in chains with superior products and attractive growth prospects. The Challenge:

Data Silos

Many Data Systems

Every brand had their own tech stack. Many relied on legacy systems. It was impossible to establish clear data governance or to conduct analysis across brands.

No Visibility

As systems were extremely fragmented, it was hard to create a combined view across all businesses. Data was siloed and inaccessible.

Manual and Cumbersome

Reporting had to be performed manually as there was no shared data environment to make automations possible.

There was nothing automated. We pulled reports directly from POS backends and used multiple reporting tools one by one, pulling reports from separate systems. We needed to find a way to unify the data sources.

The Solution

All Brands Within a Single Data Platform

Data from multiple POS systems, integrated into a single self-service data management framework. Leadership can maintain data governance and transparency, while the teams are empowered to manage their own data effectively.

The ability to build data pipelines ourselves in a very simple manner—that is what matters most to us. Elegant simplicity. Also, the Keboola professional service team was great at teaching us how to use the platform. We had an excellent onboarding experience.

Use Cases

How Brix Uses Keboola

Use Case #1

Data Democratization

With Keboola, various teams across different brands will be able to access and analyze data they need without relying on the central data team. Free from siloes and bottlenecks, BRIX is now ready to turn its data into a competitive advantage: accurate reporting and precise tracking of KPIs across the portfolio.

Infrastructure abstraction given by Keboola also made it much easier to interact with the data stack, allowing stakeholders without an extensive technical background to work with data without needing to waddle through a complicated network of separate POS and SaaS systems.

We wanted to give finance, supply chain, operations, and marketing the ability to access their own data and perform the analysis they need in a timely manner, without relying on IT to make a connection, pull the data, and deliver the reports.

Use Case #2

Empowering Franchisees

Having all brands under the umbrella of a single data management platform lets BRIX give their franchisees a level of support that was unattainable before.

BRIX’s mission is to deliver the best customer experience possible and turn visitors into repeat customers. With Keboola, restaurant managers will have insights into labor statistics, staff performance, review analytics, and other valuable business metrics, allowing them to improve and succeed.

At Brix, we have the customers who come into our restaurants, and we also serve our franchisee customers, who are operating the stores every day. Franchisees depend on BRIX to deliver them the most relevant data on the performance of their restaurants, in a timely manner that lets them make critical business decisions and know how to offer the best guest experience. With Keboola, we are building our technology to make this leap forward in delivering data to our franchisees.

Use Case #3

Loss Prevention

The QSR industry is notoriously vulnerable to fraud. Managing franchise restaurants involves
complicated inventory reporting and there are many ways a chain can suffer losses from both mismanagement and malicious actions: misuses of employee discount, mistakes or mixed-up orders, sold items that are not probably logged into the system, etc. At scale, QSR restaurants are statistically predictable, but to understand if the sales data matches the expectations, accurate and timely reporting is needed.

With Keboola, BRIX is on track to have a unified view of all locations.

Before, managers had to log into the Point of Sale systems for fraud reporting. Now, they will have a holistic view versus having to go into all these different systems.

Cheaper Maintenance

Because of the self-service structure, BRIX saw significant savings compared to the previous setup, both in terms of freed-up manpower and the actual invoices paid.

Data Governance

More control over data opens a trove of possibilities for BRIX, with many more use cases that used to be impractical without a unified platform: in-depth profitability forecasting, waste management, and machine learning implementations.

Daily Automated Reporting Across All Business Units

Brix now has a daily sales insight report for all brands that is key to making informed strategic decisions.

All I can say is this: I wish we knew about Keboola sooner.
